The Trenching Safety Awareness online program is designed to assist those firms that excavate deeper than 1.2 metres (4 ft). Emphasis is placed on soil types, legislation, and emergency work. Participants develop a better understanding of the hazards associated with trenching and safe trenching practices and procedures.

The City of Waterloo requires employees who dig trenches or who work in or near a trench to complete this training every 3 years.
